Description

Increasing concern from governments, stakeholders and consumers regarding environmental and social issues for products and operations has led to the study of sustainability and sustainable development in different contexts. For instance, in the business context, topics such as sustainable purchasing, sustainable inventory, sustainable transportation are becoming more and more frequent. Sustainable supply chain network design (SSCND) has received increasing attention for academics and practitioners since the involved decisions affect economic, environmental and social performance for supply chain in the long term. Most of the studies in the SSCND focus on manufacturing context and the agricultural supply chains have been scarcely studied despite its unique features in social context and its impacts on ecosystems. The work proposes the development of an integrated assessment model to SSCND for the agricultural sector, integrating classical models from operations management with environmental and social assessment tools from ecology sciences.
