Este proyecto aborda el retraso en el diagnóstico y tratamiento del lupus eritematoso sistémico (LES) en Latinoamérica, una enfermedad autoinmune que puede causar daño orgánico irreversible y alta mortalidad si no se trata oportunamente. Se busca identificar los factores y barreras que contribuyen a este retraso en una región donde las dificultades en el sistema de salud, las barreras económicas y la escasez de especialistas limitan el acceso rápido al diagnóstico.

La importancia de este estudio radica en la necesidad de optimizar el diagnóstico temprano del LES, lo cual mejoraría la calidad de vida y pronóstico de los pacientes. Existen pocos datos específicos en Latinoamérica, lo que convierte este estudio en una oportunidad novedosa para generar información valiosa sobre los factores que afectan el diagnóstico en esta región.

El proyecto tiene como objetivo describir el proceso de búsqueda de atención y medir el retraso en el diagnóstico de LES en varios países latinoamericanos. Se espera validar un cuestionario para medir el retraso y analizar las barreras y facilitadores de atención. La metodología mixta incluirá entrevistas y grupos focales con pacientes y reumatólogos en la fase cualitativa, seguida de la validación y aplicación del cuestionario en la fase cuantitativa.
Como resultado, se espera obtener un instrumento validado y datos fundamentales que permitan el desarrollo de políticas públicas para mejorar el diagnóstico y tratamiento temprano del LES en la región, optimizando así los recursos de salud y mejorando los resultados clínicos.
