Injuries to the spinal cord, causing permanent changes in the movement, perception and the functioning of the body. Merleau-Ponty, French existentialist philosopher and psychologist, argued that the body is the vehicle of being in the world, is the companion of Being absent because he is always present but only perceived in consciousness in the presence of a disorder or disease. He argued that humans are corporeal beings and from this perspective the self is inseparable from its body and the situation they are living. Defines the embodiment in a way that reflects how each person lives and experiences the world through the body, especially through perception, emotion, language, movement in space, time and sexuality. For health professionals in general and nursing in particular, is essential to understand how people perceive changes in the body and corporeality, based on them to design an individualized care plan aimed at meeting the particular needs of each.In 2011, Moreno-Fergusson and Amaya King, completed a doctoral thesis on the body and corporeality in people with paraplegia secondary to a traumatic injury of the spinal cord, the results describe how these changes cause a break in people with life they led before the injury and takes on the meaning of "transformation of existence" and the experience of a process that was described by the authors as "Discover the new normal."The purpose of this study is to describe and explain the meanings of the changes in the body and embodiment, in adults with quadriplegia and compare the results obtained in each group, based for them develop a theoretical approach as a basis to guide nursing care of persons with disabilities secondary to these alterations.Method: Qualitative Grounded Theory.Participants: Adults over 18 with quadriplegia or degenerative disorders of the nervous system carrying more than six months from diagnosis and pose no cognitive impairment.Collection of Information: Interviews depth, field notes.Process analysis of information: We will follow the guidelines of Strauss and Corbin (2008) which includes the coding process (initial, focused, axial and theoretical), concept formation, concept development, and identification of the central category. Which will be compared with the results of the study of Moreno-Fergusson and Amaya (2011).Spinal Cord Injuries, causing permanent changes in the movement, perception and the functioning of the body.
