Resumen

Background: Apocrine hydrocystoma is a benign cystic lesion derived from apocrine sweat glands, commonly located on the eyelids and known as Moll's gland cyst. Since its first description in 1964, the need to differentiate it from other similar eyelid lesions has been emphasized. Methodology: A descriptive review article was conducted by consulting databases such as PubMed, Google Scholar, Scopus, and ScienceDirect. Search terms included "Apocrine Hydrocystoma", "Eyelid Hydrocystoma", "Benign Eyelid Lesions", "Epidermoid Cyst" and "Basal Cell Carcinoma", selecting articles published between 2018 and 2022, along with a source from 1964 for the initial description of apocrine hydrocystoma. Results: Apocrine hydrocystoma presents as a papular or nodular lesion, with variations in color and size, making its differential diagnosis difficult. Based on the literature review, multiple similar lesions were identified, each with distinctive features. Discussion: The article highlights the importance of an accurate differential diagnosis, given that the morphological features of apocrine hydrocystoma can mimic other benign and malignant lesions. The review underlines the relevance of histopathological examination in cases of diagnostic uncertainty. Conclusions: Apocrine hydrocystoma is a benign eyelid lesion whose proper recognition is crucial to avoid erroneous diagnoses, which can result in unfavorable outcomes. Accurate identification of its morphological features is essential, although histopathological analysis remains the gold standard for a definitive diagnosis.
