Representación cosmológica, topológica y simbólica del Nuevo Mundo en la Recopilación historial de fray Pedro Aguado

The article focuses on fray Pedro Aguado’s representation of the American space in his Recopilación historial, through an analysis of the symbolic elements and rhetorical devices used by the author to name, describe, and hierarchize the elements of the environment, with the intention of creating a logbook that would facilitate the processes of discovery and colonization. The spatial descriptions fluctuate between the motif of pilgrimage and journey and that of encounter and settlement in a place.
