Resumen
Introduction: Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease that significantly impacts patients' quality of life, making comprehensive and individualized management for these patients essential. In Colombia, the psoriasis clinic at the Central Military Hospital (HOMIL) is the national referral center for the Military Forces health system. Few studies exist on the clinical and sociodemographic characteristics of psoriasis in such cohorts. This study aims to characterize the clinical and sociodemographic profile of patients followed up at the psoriasis clinic of HOMIL. Materials and methods: A descriptive observational cross-sectional study of a retrospective cohort of 189 patients with psoriasis treated at HOMIL between 2007 and 2023. Data were obtained from clinical records. Univariate and bivariate analyses were performed using SPSS version 25. Results: A total of 189 patients were included, with a median age of 57.7 years, 57.7% were male; 58.2% were married; and 47.7% belonged to socioeconomic level 3. Treatment rates were topical (97.9%), non-biological systemic (28.6%), biological (24.9%), and phototherapy (13.7%). Mild PASI increased from 56% to 91%, while moderate to severe PASI decreased from 44% to 9%. Overall, 90.9% had mild PASI, and 88.2% had a DLQI <5. The most common phenotype was psoriasis vulgaris (95.8%). Cardiovascular comorbidities were present in 35.4%, metabolic comorbidities in 34.9%, and psoriatic arthritis in 31.2%. Conclusions: Knowing the characteristics of psoriasis patients is essential for their management. The multidisciplinary approach and continuous training make the HOMIL psoriasis clinic a health care group with the appropriate conditions to become part of a center of excellence.
